“A New Immigration Sheriff in Town!”
July 3, 2008

There’s a new sheriff in town or more accurately a new Immigration Boss at the helm of the Guadalajara Immigration Office.
His name is Jose Antonio de la Torre Bravo and he’s promising big changes to help North Americans obtain immigration papers faster, easier and cheaper than ever before.
Take a look at the new website in English at www.inami.gob.mx
It’s supposed to be very easy to understand and you can can even download official forms directly from the website.
Sr. De la Torre is even soliciting feedback to his e mail address at adelatorre@inami.gob.mx
Some of his goals are to provide a new window at the Guadalajara office dedicated to foreigners to serve them more quickly and to staff the immigration delegation who visit Chapala each week with fluent English speakers so that communication will be even easier than in the past.
No doubt this will substantially cut into the revenue of the various local immigration lawyers and businesses who have had a thriving business for many years helping North Americans navigate the complexities of obtaining just the right immigration status.
Also in the works is the implementation of a convenient Immigration ID card which will eventually replace all the paper booklets currently in use.
Here’s some interesting statistics while we’re on the subject of immigration for the Mexican State of Jalisco where Lake Chapala is located.
There are currently 22,927 Americans and 3,383 Canadians currently registered with an FM2 or FM 3 immigration status.
Europeans from Spain, France, Germany, Great Britain, and Italy all together add up to 6,573.
There are 174 from Australia, 7 from Iraq, and even 2 from Saudi Arabia as well.
We have a truly International Community. Consider coming to join in the fun.
