“Canadians from Barrhead, Alberta !”

July 6, 2008

Did you know that recently the Chapala mayor, Geraldo Degollado, visited your fair city (about 120 kilometers Northwest of Edmonton)  to sign a fraternal agreement which fosters both business and cultural exchanges between us.

For those not familiar with your town we should tell them that your “Town Bird” is the Great Blue Heron which like many other Canadians summers here at Lake Chapala.

I always enjoy watching them gracefully walk along the edges of the lake in search of a good meal. (The Herons that is.)

And, a big Thanks are in order to the town of Barrhead, situated near Thunder Lake, and to John Bennett, president and CEO of BarrCana Homes, for helping our migrating workers from Chapala to find good paying jobs with descent working conditions all “Legal Eagle” in Canada.

Finally, politicians and businesses have linked up to begin to solve the problems of helping each of our countries deal with immigration issues in a sane manor which is good for both sides.

I just hope Obama and McCain and the rest of the US Congress are taking notes. You guys are setting a great example as far as I can tell from here.
