Good News for New Yorkers and Floridians A number of the big airlines have been cutting flights left and right and flights to Guadalajara have not been left out of the cuts.
But there may be a breath of fresh air in the sky above Mexico’s Guadalajara’s International Airport (GDL) soon if Jet Blue has its way. Jet Blue is hoping to add new routes between New York and Orlando Florida. It’s reported that Dave Barger, president of discount carrier Jet Blue, has been in talks with Mexican tourism honchos about possible new routes. Sky-rocketing fuel costs have prompted some low-cost airlines to cancel scheduled flights out of Guadalajara Airport this year. Aerocalifornia, Volaris, Alma, Aviasca and Avolar have all been forced to make cuts as a result. Chapala Club has no crystal ball, nor are we knowledgeable about the airline industry, but we sincerely wish Jet Blue success in stepping up to the plate and trying to fill the gaps left by the other airlines and hope that the others will find a way to restore the canceled routes soon.
