And the Beat Goes On… and On… and On !
First it was Chapala that reaped the benefit of the decision to totally rehabilitate the various Lake Chapala waterfront areas on the North shore. Other Articles have told about the new beautifully completed Malecon at the pier in downtown Chapala but only briefly mentioned that work was planned for the pier area in Ajijic.
Well, the promised work has now begun in earnest.
As you probably already know Mother Nature provided us with extra heavy rains the last few rainy seasons and the result has been wonderful… for the most part.
But, an the heavy rains caused Lake Chapala to spill its waters across the verdant grounds of Ajijic’s Parque de la Amistad (Friendship Park).
The Chapala government have now sent in workmen, heavy machinery and loads of rubble and cement that have created a desolate scene at what has long served as the town’s most cherished recreational green zone.
The reason for all of this is to raise the park level and provide a beautiful walk along the waterfront similar to the one in Chapala.
Mayor Gerardo Degollado anticipates work on the park renovation project to be finished before the end of the year, promising to save trees, refurbish picnic areas and add on an attractive pedestrian walkway to rival Chapala’s own Malecon.
A second phase of the project will involve stretching the waterfront parkway as far west as time and finances allow, will fix up the old tennis and basketball courts that were also swallowed up by the lake during this year’s rainy season.
The last project of the type has just begun on a similar flood-proof waterfront recreational area at the west end of San Antonio Tlayacapan.
That plan calls for clearing aquatic foliage to create a beach area adorned with palm trees and palapa shelters bordering a raised walkway.
So, we will soon have even more beautiful areas than ever before to enjoy here at Lake Chapala Ajijic Mexico.
