What does a Catholic Priest, a Chief of Police and the Citizens of Lake Chapala Ajijic, Mexico have in Common?
They all welcomed the arrival of 12 new pick up trucks to be used by the county wide Chapala Police Department.
The new fleet consists of 2 Dodge Ram trucks donated by the State of Jalisco and 10 Ford Lobos purchased with local government funds.
The new vehicles are all equipped with emergency light bars, and official decals and have just gone into service.
Three of the existing fleet will remain in service while the older vehicles will be reassigned within the government to non emergency use.
The local parish priest , Enrique Monteon formally blessed each of the new vehicles along with the officers who will be driving them by a sprinkling of Holy Water in a recent ceremony.
The officers have personally pledged to treat the new vehicles with respect.

The chief stated that the additional vehicles will allow him to assign an extra vehicle to Ajijic and to one other community.
Other good news on the crime fighting front is the arrival of a team of crack state police officers who have been put on special assignment along the north shore of Lake Chapala where most of the ex-patriot community lives.
The new vehicles and the extra State Police Officers in the area are welcomed by all except of course the local “ladrones” (criminal element).
