What’s New with Love in Action for the New Year !

January 2, 2009

Happy New Year from Love in Action!!!!!  We have lots planned for January and we hope you are ready to help us!  Here is a rundown of what is going on:

1,  We now have the keys for Love in Action II (formerly known as Oasis)!!!!!  Our agreement with the previous owners includes a payment of $300,000 USD (which is a fraction of the property’s value)–at the closing we managed to come up with half of that money.  So we still need to raise another $150,000 USD in the next 6 months.

We are currently planning a fundraiser on the property–more about that soon.  We are asking that you hold off on requests for tours of the building just now.  If you want to see the property, you may attend our next fundraiser, or join one of our work teams.

2.  Yes, now the real work begins at Love in Action II, and there is lots of work to do.  On Monday, January 5th our Evaluation Team will make a detailed assessment of the property to identify all repair, cleaning, painting projects needed for each building.  We are fortunate to have a GREAT Evaluation Team which includes both US contractors and building inspectors.

Our next step will be to set up teams to address these identified projects quickly, but in an orderly fashion.  I know that some of you are champing at the bit to start working, and I love you for it!

We will be asking for your help–lots of help–very soon. In the meantime, if you would like to help and have a special skill, please let us know and we’ll add your name to the proper team.  Please contact Sandy Cross at school kids

and she will make sure you have a job.

We will also have a work schedule–so you can be assigned to teams that work when you are available.  If you know of other people who would like to help, please recruit them!

3.  The Godparents Program is now up and running!  If you have fallen in love with a specific child at Love in Action and would like to join our godparents group, please let us know.  Some Godparents have shopped, swam, played baseball, movies, made gingerbread house, and danced with children.

We are currently planning some group activities such as picnics, etc. Our Godparents Program is just getting off the ground–if you would like to participate, but don’t have a special child picked out, please let us know!  There are lots of children who need a special person in their lives.  Please email me at springborn@aol.com if you would like to participate and I’ll put you in touch with the right people.

4.  Our new facility offers some unique opportunities for playing outside.  Our first task is to concentrate on the toddlers–and we have lots of them.  We need some “big wheels”, a playhouse, some toddler gym equipment—anything that will get these little ones moving and improving their large motor skills.  If you can help, send a check to Love in Action–let me know if you need instructions on how to do this.

5. While we are concentrating on moving the children, we don’t want to forget about our babies.  We have a bunch of babies, and they are spending entirely too much time in their cribs without stimulation.  Although we now have great Mexican women working with our littlest ones, every mother knows that one-on-one attention is best.  So if you like to rock babies, play with babies, or help feed babies, WE NEED YOU.  If you can help, please email me and I will get you in touch with the right people.

It’s going to be a great (and busy) 2009!  We need your help to make it even better…..blessings, Pat Wayne

A note from Sid:

This group of dedicated, hardworking folks putting their time, energy, effort and money where most people’s mouth is deserves our help.

Love in Action and the other groups of this type is just one more reason to love living at Lake Chapala Ajijic Mexico.

www.ChapalaClub.com is happy to help with the publicity for this worthwhile well run group.
