Will you run out of money in retirement? Retirement Expenses 25% to 50% Less at Lake Chapala !
January 20, 2009

“… if you live in one of the retirement enclaves such as Lake Chapala in Mexico, your retirement expenses could be anywhere from 25-50% lower than what you would spend on a similar lifestyle in the U.S.”
This is a direct quote from Kurt Brouwser who is chairman of Brouwer & Janachowski, a financial advisory firm based in northern California.
He’s the author or co-author of three books on investing, the most recent of which is Mutual Fund Mastery (Times Business 1997). He has written for Forbes, Barron’s, The San Francisco Chronicle, Pension World and other publications. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Economics from the University of San Francisco.
I’ve not had the pleasure of meeting Mr.Brouwser, but if the information on his website is as accurate as I believe the above quote to be, it should be worth a close look.
So, the word is getting out about our little slice of paradise.
I see a very bright future for Lake Chapala Ajijic as more and more Baby Boomers retire.
You may be one of them. You guys are looking for good old fashioned value, with weather so great you’ll find yourself spending more time outside puttering in your garden…

taking your furry best friends for walks along the lake shore….
or just visiting with new friends on your covered veranda over a lunch prepared with fresh local organic produce you know is good and good for you.
You may be thinking well this all sounds too good to be true….
That’s why I quoted Mr. Brouwser to show you that the word is out about the great value Lake Chapala Ajijic provides those of us who’ve made it our home.
What would an extra 25 to 50% boost in your buying power mean to your retirement lifestyle.
*Would it mean you could have a maid or a gardener… or both?
*Would it mean you’d have more funds to help those in need?
*Would it mean you could afford to travel?
You may be fortunate enough to be able to retire early on a comfortable pension and stay right where you are. Great, you have even more options.
For those of you so blessed I should add that there are some very wealthy retirees here too. These blessed folks could live anywhere in the world they choose, but they chose Lake Chapala Ajijic.
So, what ever the size of your pocketbook here … we all get to breath the same fresh clean unspoiled mountain air, enjoy the same beautiful sunsets over Lake Chapala, bask in the wonderful year around mild climate, and return to a life not unlike that which most of us remember fondly.
A life where family values are more important than chasing a dollar, where ladies are safe to walk alone on the street (even after dark), where you get real value for the money you spend, and where you know your neighbors… and they’re nice people.
