Guadalajara Goes Green with Gas !
February 24, 2009

Guadalajara Goes Green with Gas ! Yes, with gas.
No it’s not some new form of diesel gasoline but a greener way to prevent the escape of green house gases into the atmosphere. No doubt other parts of Mexico will be “Green with Envy”.
Hasars landfill outside Guadalajara is going to help Guadalajara (Zapopan) Go Green from Gas.
It’s a first in a plant of its type in Mexico to harvest methane bio-gas from decomposing garbage.
The plant will collect greenhouse gases (Methane and Carbon dioxide) and “flare” the gases except for some used on site.
The site has the capacity to handle expected landfill needs until 2050.
A series of vertical extraction wells and associated piping will handle the transmission of the gases to the flaring station.
The flaring reduces significantly the amount of harmful gases escaping into the atmosphere.
Since many of the components of the system are being provided by specialty manufacturers outside of Mexico the project also provides opportunities for technology transfer with design, equipment and installations complying with international standards with regard to quality, reliability, operational safety as well as environmental aspects.
Note: Much if not all of the municipal waste from Chapala is transported to one or more landfills North of Guadalajara.
