A Video Walk in Chapala for You

Today in the early afternoon In late August 09 I decided to film my walk from Flavio Ramero (a street) at its intersection with Madero (the main North South street) to the Central Market.

The day was warm and sunny, but not hot as I walked and you will see I spoke to a couple of vendors along the way.

Chapala is different from Ajijic in that it’s larger and is the equivalent of the County Seat of government.

So, Ajijic is actually inside the “county” of Chapala and so has the same police force and county services.

There are more North Americans living in the Ajijic area than in the Chapala area although the American Legion is in Chapala and more and more people are choosing to live in or very near Chapala (the city).

To these folks it feels more like a “real” Mexican town and less “touristy” than Ajijic. Personally I like them both, but prefer the lower prices of the small Mom and Pop restaurants in Chapala for lunch while I’m out running errands.

    Your web site has been what I have been looking for. I want to see what the city really looks like. The videos of downtown and the market were wonderful. I am hoping to move to that area if I can talk my husband to move or I will have to go after he is gone (provided I outlive him). This has been the best site so far and I havent gone though all of it yet. Thank you for putting this together.

    Hi Betty, Thanks very much for your kind words. I find that often a husband or a wife will be interested in our are and their mate will not be that interested.

    WHat I recommend is to see if their mate would be open to a vacation to our area. Treat the trip as a fun thing and not as a serious thing to be uptight about. NEar by Guadalajara is jam packed with all that big cities have to offer.

    Of course our own area here at Lake Chapala has it’s own share of charm as well and most North Americans perefer to live here and just visit the city from time to time.

    My first wife of 37 years loved this area but did not want to live here full time but agreed to live here 3 months in the heat of the Texas summers and at least 2 months during the worst of our winters,. but she wanted to be close to family and friends in Texas the rest of the year.

    Now, of course I’ve remarried and live here full time and just visit family and friends in the USA.

    hey, im from chapala n i’m so happy that u take your time n film a little bit of chapala, (my hometown) my dad sells CD’s in la plaza in chapala i saw him in one of your videos n that make’s me happy, hope you can make more videos of chapala n film my dad, the name of my dad is raul zamora as me, i,m so glad that show chapala to other people….. I,m living for now in san francico, california a great nation down here but i miss very much my beatiful chapala, let me know about you n tanks again.

    I think I would remember Iris if I were to see her again. I’ve been using Mago’s services for over 16 years now. Her daughter “Natalie” helps Mago run the office now. Time flies. It doesn;t seem that long ago that Natalie was just “una chica” playing around the office.

    I hope someday you and your family can return to Lake Chapala. I plan to still be here.
