What Category Are You In?

In my experience couples that contact me fall into two general categories:

Category 1:Both are interested in the beautiful and affordable area of Mexico collectively known as Lake Chapala.

Category 2

One or the other of them is skeptical.

They may feel if it sounds too good to be true, then it isn’t true.

The  partner who wants to come down for a check us out trip so bad they can taste it of course tries to convince the other one to make plans to come down to see us.

If you’re the partner who thinks you should come down: Good for you, but here’s some advice.

Don’t argue, don’t push, just say something like… “Let’s go have a nice holiday away, enjoy the great weather, meet some people who live there, llo around and then see what we think.”

Follow up with, “I could be wrong .. and if I am I’ll be the frst to admit it… but if we both like it I promise not to say, ‘ I told you so’.  But, if you don’t think it’s right for us, then I love you and we’ll cross Lake Chapala off our list, fair enough.”

Now a word to the skeptical partner:Let me shed some light on what you can expect from me.

I promise to let it all hang out and I will not cover you up with a bunch of B. S.

I’ll just answer your questions honestly. I’ll even point out the negatives (yes there are a few even for folks who our area is definitely right for).

No area is “perfect perfect” at least on this planet, but for me Lake Chapala comes real close.

Is it the best place in the world retire? Well it is for thousands of North Americans who could have chosen any place in the world to retire… but I admit that doesn’t mean it’s right for you.

But, it’s so right for so many that you owe it to yourself to come see, to meet some folks who live here, and to get some honest straight from the shoulder information.

If you conclude that the area is right for you (Do this on your time line when you’re here or after you’re back home) then I’d like to be your Exclusive Buyer’s Only Realtor looking after your best interest.

Not sure just what a Buyer’s Realtor is or does for you then check out the following links.

Need more information about any aspect of living here just let me know. They don’t call me “The Lake Chapala Information Guy” for nothing.

    Hi Billy,

Glad you’re enjoying ChapalaClub.com and to be sure you don’t miss any new articles please put your e mail address in the box in the upper right hand corner of any of the pages of the website.

I really enjoyed reading your post. I loved my gentleman’s farm in East Texas, but I love Lake Chapala too.

Glad to hear sales are picking up some in East Texas. I was fortunate and sold my farm in Van Zandt County in 10 days after putting it on the market I actually received $10,000 more than my asking price since I had two people bidding on it. I used a number of marketing strategies all at once to sell and they paid off.

Other nicer homes in my area which had been for sale for many months were still for sale when I left.

If you at some point decide to sell your place there let me know and I’ll share with you the best way for a quick sale at a fair price, even in a slow market.

Billy, thanks again for the great comments and the update on the others there.

    Siempre tu amigo, Sid

Hi Sid! What a great article. I can relate to the second group somewhat. I have to tread carefully so I dont get to pushy. I would like to get to the point where my husband asks questions and I can tell him to write to you. Hopefully that wont be to long. Thanks again for a wonderful piece.

Hi Betty, Thanks for your very kind words. For now, you just have to love him where he’s at and resist the urge to push.

No one likes to be pushed, even when it’s in love. We’ll be here when you BOTH are ready.

Thanks for sharing. No doubt others can relate. Siempre tu amigo, Sid

I am a single divorce’ I don’t fit either of your categories #1 nor #2.

I am looking for an alternative retirement area I can afford. I am a practicing artist as well.

Will consider buying a home if I can get something under 150,000.

I’ve visited other areas including Merida, but haven’t made up my mind as yet.

Do you have a local hospital? What does it cost if one wants to hire a companion/housekeeper?

How far is it to the local grocery store etc.

Any information would be great on quality of life info.

Hi Kathy, You may not fit either of the categories mentioned in the article, but you will sure fit in well here at Lake Chapala. There’s an active social life for singles here. I’ve not been to Merida, but from what I’ve read we have a much better infrastructure and tons better weather.

Yes, the beach is very close for them and our closest beach is Mazanillo (half day drive) but we have year round perfect weather here.

But, back to your questions. You should be able to find a nice home here within your price range. You can check out available homes at http://www.mlsmexico.com/chapala. But, when you find homes there you’d like to know more about please e mail me at Sid@ChapalaClub.com as non of the homes listed are mine.

As an Exclusive Buyers Only Realtor and member of the MLS- GIL network I can give you unbiased information about any of the hundreds of homes listed there.

There are small, medium, and large grocery stores throughout the Lake Chapala area and even a WalMart, a Sorianna store (like a Mexican WalMart), a 5 screen movie house (First run English Language films) and there are two Clinic Hospitals in the area and the big major hospitals in Guadalajara (one hour away).

We have lots of great local doctors and dentists as well.

Our quality of life here, for the moneyis extremely high. Are their cheaper places in Mexico to live. Yes, of course… but the best middle ground between low prices and North American amenities is right here at Lake Chapala. (Things like reliable high speed fiber optic cable Internet access).

Please sign up for membership for our http://www.ChapalaClub.com on line magazine articles by placing your primary e mail in the sign up box in the upper right hand corner of any of our web pages and click GO, because I dont want you to miss any of the great articles, videos, and audios we have in store for you.

Then, confirm your member ship when you receive our automated e mail opt in (we use this to prevent spammers and protect your privacy).

Hope this helps Kathy. All for now, Siempre tu amigo, Sid
