Why I Don’t Want to be Your Real Estate Agent at Lake Chapala – Ajijic, Mexico !

Well, I hope the title caught your attention and I'll explain just what I mean in a couple of minutes, but first let me tell you how some people think of me. Many of the visitors who meet me on line and then come down for a check us out tour think of me as their Lake Chapala – Ajijic  Information Guru. But, please don't take my word for it. Ask them or at least read a few of my piles of wonderful testimonials Sid: Thank you so much for all the time and attention you gave to us today. On such very short notice, I gave you a call today at 12:30 PM, and said “We are in Guadalajara, and coming to Ajijic to look around and would it be possible to see properties and get a lay of the land”. You said “Come on over I’ll be waiting for you!” We did not expect to receive the service and treatment you gave us, but it was the very best you were patient, kind and certainly knew the lay of the land. You spent the entire afternoon going from property to property and area to area. You must have been exhausted. But we were impressed. You even went out of your way to help me exchange dollars at Walmart. Great idea and it worked. We saw some great properties and feel that we have gained a friend as well. We will be sure to come back and spend a lot more time than one afternoon looking, but we will surely be there with YOU, looking to find that home we want to buy.     Well, in January 2010, I bought a little casita with beautiful yard with Sid as my guide. NO PRESSURE, but, then he didn’t have to do a lot of selling, either.

    When I saw the place, it was almost love at first sight, even though there were some “cons” as far as the size of the house was concerned. What Sid did though, was to give my friend and I his personal attention, which meant when we arrived at the airport late at night, he and his wife were there to pick us up ($35–same as a taxi). He delivered us to the QQ in Chapala (a great B&B, and reasonably priced)and then tried to find us a place to eat. We hadn’t had anything since noon. Since Chapala pretty much shuts down by 8pm on weeknights, he ended up driving (or rather, his wife did)us back up the mountain to an all night burrito place which was like no burrito establishment I’ve ever seen in Calif. The food was great and very inexpensive. They even had beer–plus Sid bought us our meal!

    The next morning–or maybe it was the morning after that– he was there, at the QQ, ready to take my friend and I on a sight seeing tour of the area. While there was nothing I could afford in the neighborhoods we saw, it was good to sse what comprised the area they call “Lakeside.” He chauffered us around most of the day, stopping at the Chapala Society, and then on a whim (was it really a whim, Sid?) he mentioned a home on the other side of Ajijic that he’d like to see, and thought I might as well. After he described it, I realized I had looked at it online before I left Calif, but had put it at the back of my mind as it was only one bedroom. We were close, so I said yes, why not.

    Onward we went. Upon arrival at the casita in San Juan, my friend, who came along, and I were totally overwhelmed by the exotic garden and the view. It was a painter’s paradise. Immediately I began grazing on the snow peas they had growing–then thought to ask permission. My friend started pulling a few weeds the gardener missed.

    Yes, the house was small. A casita, really, but I could see where I could build a studio (which I needed in some form or another) and Sid gave me an idea of what he thought the cost would be. We spent a long time at this little place. Me, mostly thinking how I could make it work. When I left, I had a good feeling about it–and the price was almost right.

    Sid didn’t have to do any selling–maybe he just paid attention to some of the things I said I liked, I don’t know. But he was helpful in advising me what to look for as well as showing me the guidelines for making an offer.

    Tne best, thing, though, after the property closed, I wasn’t dropped like a pancake. I’ve gotten all kinds of advice and answers to my questions from him. My friend not only thinks the area is beautiful, she thinks Sid’s a “really nice guy,” and when she’s ready to buy (I’m working on that), guess who she’ll call on?

    Last but not least: NO, Sid did not pay me to say this. He won’t know I’ve written it until he sees it.

    WOW WOW WOW, Sunny, you made my day. It’s just the right thing to do… as well as good business to treat people as you would want to be treated if your roles were reversed.

    Yes, I’ve been blessed with many great referrals from clients. And, thanks to you and a lot of others who feel the same way I;m beginnng to have more clients than I can handle and still see they are all treated as I want them to be treated.

    So what I’m about to say will be sort of a sneak preview of what I’m working on to be sure that everyone get’s the most personal knowledgeable service possible. As most of our members know I’m an Exclusive Buyers Only Realtor… which means I do not accept listings. I don;t want the conflict of interest. I thin the seller has their agent and that buyers should be on an equal footing and have their agent as well.

    So, to handle the influx of clients that want the same type of service you received and will continue to receive I’ve convinced three other people to join me. Each has agreed to subscribe to the philosophy of personal, knowledgeable, and professional service as an Exclusive Buyer’s Only Realtor.     Hi JoAnne,

    Thanks for your question. I recommend that you come down and spend a day or two checking rentals in person. Either myself or one of my associates can give you an area tour, introduce you to several of the local rental agency folks and explain how to get the nicest rental at the best price.

    I’ve had clients who had bad experiences renting before they saw the property. Also January and February are very popular months and rentals usually go up in price for December, January and February (snow bird season).

    Thanks for all the time you spent with Cliff and I on 3/19, and your willingness to spend more time with us if we wanted. We enjoyed getting acquainted with the neighborhoods again to try to decide (when the time comes) where we might like to live whether it be part or full time. (2 weeks vacation is not long enough even to just look around) I loved Sunny’s story, and I believe in “when you see the right place, you will know it”.
