Jalisco Governor Emilio Gonzalez Marquez, leaders of the state’s technology industry, local educators, Mexican film stars all were present for the recent grand opening of the Chapala Media Park .
The new multimedia production complex, on the Libramiento (bypass), will be home to various high-tech enterprises dedicated to the fields of animation, special effects, 3-D imaging, audiovisuals, sound tracks and dubbing, and applications for new generation telephones.
The governor is quoted as saying that the new facility promises to strengthen Jalisco’s position as a leader in information and communication technology while boosting the economic dynamics of the state and the region.
Among the media that will be created at the Chapala Media complex will be 3-D movies.
The initial site has several acres of land with room to expand. Currently the site has two large buildings , Just inside to the left is the glass-enclosed business center housing an audio recording studio, office space and a cutting-edge data processing center.
Across from this is the film studio annex .
The first stage of the Chapala Media Complex was funded with 40 million pesos ( approx $3,200,000 USD) from the private sector, almost 25.8 million pesos (approximately $2,150,000 USD) from the National Council of Science and Technology and 30 million pesos ($2,400,000) by the state government.
Kaxan, a Jalisco-based firm, currently involved in the production of several feature-length animated films, and other media projects is the first business to locate at the complex..
The Chapala Media complex is easy to spot as you drive along the Libramiento (bypass) by the bright pink monolith that marks the entrance..
Morris Schwarzblat, director of Chapala’s Institute of Technology said,“This is an extraordinary milestone, not only a first step towards turning Chapala into a technology community, but a city of culture and creativity.”
