Cowboys Strut Their Stuff at Lake Chapala, Mexico

February 19, 2011

I’ve always been a cowboy, at least in my mind. Cowboys and Super heroes is what I grew up on having been born in Texas.

Geny Autry, Roy Rogers and Hop a Long Casity, and of course the Lone Ranger.

The Spanish brought the horse to the new world and the use, training, and fun we’ve enjoyed with them over the centuries has forged a bond that continues to exist.

This bond as you will see in the below video shot by my good friend Charlie Williams is still alive and well at Lake Chapala, Mexico.

It’s common to see people riding horses in our area. Heck, we even have horses for rent at very reasonable prices right in the middle of a very upscale neighborhood here called La Floresta.

Wild horses still live in the moutains around Lake Chapala and sometimes we're blessed to see small groups of 8 or so come down and feed on the empoty lots. Brisas de Chapala edition is one of their favorite places to visit.

So, if you love horses (and almost everyone does) then sit back and enjoy the horse show and cowboys and cowgirls showing off some find horseflesh.

This show is one example of the diverse cultural activities we have going on around Lake Chapala.

Charlie and I hope you enjoy it!

Sid

That’s some pretty fancy footwork! Think I’ll share this on my Facebook page to show family and friends another reason we’re looking forward to living in Ajijic. :-)

Hi Heather, Thanks as always for your nice comments.

Charlie did an outstanding job filming this event. I’m sorry I missed it live, but enjoyed the video very much too.

Best to your other half. Tu amigo, Sid

These beautiful horses and riders took my breath away. Thank you for sharing them with me.

Hi Marilyn, Thanks for the nice words. Yes, I think there is a little bit of cowboy/cowgirl in all of us. The original cowboys were Mexican Vaqueros. The horse came to the New World on ships from Spain and of course as they say the rest is history.

    Tu amigo, Sid
