A Taste of Tequila for You

May 28, 2011

There are about 100 brands of true Tequila. True Tequila can only be grown in the Mexican state of Jalisco where Lake Chapala is located and a few adjacent parts of neighboring Mexican states.
In more recent years, Tequila has become a good export commodity for Mexico. Environmentalists will be happy to note that none of the plant goes to waste. It’s all used.
The City of Tequila is just a few hours drive from Lake Chapala and makes a very interesting day trip.
The best and least expensive tour in my biased opinion is to reserve a date to go with my Bilingual Mexican wife, Arcelia in her Eddie Bauer Explorer you see below.

She charges just $90 USD to transport up to 4 people to Tequila and return the same day. She pays for her gas, parking, and toll road fees. Depending upon just which factory you decide to visit once arriving there’s an additional fee of about $10 per person (prices subject to change).
So if four people share the costs it works out to a nice day tour for about $32.50 each. Not bad for a day of touring.
Some of the tours include lunch and all include free samples of Tequila and the chance to buy bottles of Tequila straight from the factory.
She handles translations as needed and there’s normally time to shop and bargain for an array of items in the downtown area of Tequila. She can help you bargain, and receives no kickbacks from the shops.
Let me know if a trip to Tequila might be of interest.
Now enjoy this interesting video about Tequila.

Sid – sorry to be so late in thanking you for all your helpful information – I guess there will be a lot of sorting out for us to do once we finally make our permanent move there. Hope all is well with you and Arcelia!
