Chapala Club’s Survey Results Are In

October 1, 2011

Chapala Club’s Reader Survey Results Are In.
First, I want to say a big THANKS to those of you who responded. Your responses will help me to focus on the things that are most important to you in future articles, videos, and audios.
The number one concern among those who responded was about finances. 100 % of those who responded mention this in one way or another.
I received colorful responses like “fear of being a bag lady” to just “a fear of running out of money”.
Two categories tied for the next most prevalent responses. “Getting the Wife to Agree” came in at 28% of the responses.
I have a theory of why there were no responses saying, “Getting the Husband to Agree”.
Men overall are programmed to be the “bread winner” in traditional households; although of course this is changing. Living at Lake Chapala allows the “bread winner” to feel that he has accomplished his mission since the “bread” he’s worked so hard to earn goes so much farther here.
The other big category of responses also coming in at 28% were Health care related responses. Most were concerned about the high cost of health care where they live now.
A number of areas had a 7% response rate. These were missing family, safety concerns, language concerns, weather concerns (weather where they live now as being too cold, too hot, too humid, hurricanes, etc.)
Thanks again to everyone for responding and a special thanks to those who took the survey and thanked me for helping them to live their dream here at Lake Chapala.
All for now, Siempre tu amigo

In response to your Survey Results – I would like to add that my husband DID NOT want to move here full time – I solved the problem by asking him to just give it a chance and come for five months – if he did not like it I would give up on my dream of living at Lake Chapala. He did agree – it was not long before he fell in love with it too. Actually staying here and getting to meet many other expats who live here made the difference. We returned to Canada, sold our house and never looked back.

Thanks Deanne, I hope other doubting spouses will read your story. We just ask that the doubting spouse come with an open mind.

A few may still no want to relocate either full or part time… and that’s OK. They have everything to gain and absolutely nothing to lose.

    Tu amigo, Sid
