ChapalaClub.com – How to Save on Car Repairs at Lake Chapala

Car Repairs at Lake Chapala are in general very reasonable as a result of the lower cost of labor.

I have three places I use and each for different reasons. One in Ixtlauacan just over the mountains on the highway to toward Guadalajara which I’ve written about before owned by Enrique Ramarez.

No English spoken, and they're busy all the time because Enrique is an ace mechanic and charges very reasonable fees for his work.

Because he’s so busy and less convenient, I reserve his expertise for the tough jobs that call for an expert mchanic. On several occasions he's fabricated parts for me and saved me a lot of money. Otherwise I would have had to buy a complete package when I just needed one small part included in the package.

For quick and convenient oil changes and good advice I use the Mechanic shop just West of Super Lake in San Antonio Tlayacapan.

One of the mechanics there speaks perfect English. I do all my oil changes there. Then I use him to get his opinion on trouble shooting other problems. He’s referred me to other shops he trusts to do the kind of work I need (mufflers, radiators, etc.) that his shop doesn’t do.

Then, the newest place I use it the Michelin Tire Store on the Libramiento and that’s where the below video was filmed. I like their friendly attitude, clean shop and dependable work. I buy my tires there and get wheel alignment and so far, the service has been good  and the prices fair.

Today as it turned out to reseal my right front hub and check the left one in less than half an hour cost me 100 Pesos or about $8.00 USD.

He could have told me I needed new parts and I would have never know the difference.

In the USA that might have paid for the extra fees many shops tack on to your bill to cover things like shop rags.

So, in general here we have great mechanics at very fair prices if you avoid the places that look just like in the USA and the owner speaks perfect English and you see a lot of gringo plated cars stacked up waiting for work.

You will pay the same or close to USA prices at these places.

So. learn a bit of Spanish and don't be put off by the look of the shop and you'll save a lot on car repairs. This is just one more reason I love Lake Chapala.

I think you’ll love it to.
