Move Over Taco Bell Here’s the King at Lake Chapala
April 4, 2012
Hi Everyone, My name is Betty Benton. The newest writer for ChapalalaClub.com.
First a little about me and husband Larry.
Sid gave my husband Larry and me our first introduction to the Lakeside area when we came on vacation several years ago.
When Larry retired in November of 2010 we knew we wanted to move to the Lake Chapala area. So, in April of 2011 we packed up the car, sold our house and headed for Mexico. We made the trip through Mexico with no major mishaps and found a rental home in Riberas.
By June, Sid’s associate Barbara had helped us find a house that we fell in love with and we began to settle in at Brisas de Chapala.
We are extremely pleased with the decision we made to move here and count our blessings every day. One of the most enjoyable things about living in the Lake Chapala area is the abundance of fabulous eating places.
Marco, Your host
One of those places is Rey Taco (Taco King in English) , in Chapala, close to Soriana. If you leave the Soriana parking lot at the exit by the Coppel store, turn right, then turn left at the “T”, you’ll find Rey Taco just a block up, at the top of the hill.
Don’t let the name fool you – there are lots more choices to be had here than just tacos. I’ve never had the tacos, but I’d be willing to bet that they are wonderful because we haven’t ever ordered anything that wasn’t absolutely delicious.
Let me share with you the lunch that Larry and I enjoyed today.
Our meal started with chips and an assortment of four excellent salsas; my favorite is the one made with cucumbers. I really like that I can find my soft drink of choice here – Pepsi – but if you prefer that “other cola”, they also carry Coke products. Also beer, juices, wine, margaritas, etc.
Today, Larry ordered the stuffed potato with chicken and I had the grilled chicken, which included grilled veggies and a baked potato. Doesn’t the picture below just make you want to run out and order one for yourself????
Other options that we have tried are the stuffed burrito (can I just say “YUM YUM!”), the shrimp shish-ka-bob (you can also get chicken, beef and combo), the grilled fish and the pork ribs.
The quality of everything is way up there on the delicious meter!
Also available are steaks, liver and onions, and molcajete.
So, the next time you want some really good eats, give Rey Taco a try.
You will be made to feel right at home by Marco and his wife Elba, and you’ll probably even see one or all of their three sons; the youngest was just born in February. They are open Monday through Saturday, 12 noon to 8 pm.
