Look What $27 USD WIll Buy at Lake Chapala

June 30, 2012

I’ve had some folks asking about prices on various food items here at Lake Chapala.

While we just don’t have the time to check everyone’s unique shopping list I think it’s fair to say that almost everything here will be significantly  less expensive … unless of course it has to be imported from outside Mexico.

We buy more fresh food here than when we’re in the USA because fresh food here is usually much less expensive and we have/take the time to cook more fresh foods here as our lifestyle is less hectic here.

Naturally the fresher, the better for you as a rule. Check out the below video of a recent trip to Wal-Mart where we bought a table full of food for the equal of just $27 USD.

We get some really fresh food right out of our garden (two types of bananas, one type of avocado, and a lemon lime hybrid.

I went to the store today to compare prices in our low price market here in Salt Lake City and came home and added up the prices and it came to about $44 for the same amount as you bought for $27.  Like you said, your fresh produce at the open air markets there would bring your price down even more.  I hope to visit there again soon.

Hi Ruth, Thanks for your comments. That means that our prices here are 42% less than where you shopped in North America. Great confirmatation.

I always get sticker shock when I go to the USA for almost everything from soup to nuts.

Thanks again. We’ll keep the light on for you until your next visit. Tu Amigo, Sid
