A Bus Trip from Lake Chapala To Mexico City
July 28, 2012

Hi Everyone, A buddy and I recently had to go to Mexico City to get our police clearance letters from the Federal Government.
We needed these as part of the Citizenship process. We’re both married to lovely Mexicans and so qualify a bit sooner than otherwise.
We decided the most practical way would be to take the overnight luxury bus from the Tonala Bus Station near Guadalajara. The trip is just over 6 hours on a very nice luxury bus complete with reclining seats, overhead luggage compartments, Video, and even a potty.
You feel as if you’re on an airplane as even the driver is sealed in his cabin and you can’t see him. There’s a screen on the bulkhead that tells you the time to destination.
On some trips of much longer duration there’s a sleeping compartment under the bus on one side for the relief driver. At some point in the \journey the driver and relief driver change cabins.
So, by sleeping on the bus going down we saved what might have been an expensive hotel room in Mexico City.
The process at the Federal police station took about 3 hours in line outside the building once the doors open we were in and out in under 1 hour. Very efficient processing, because there must have been well over a hundred of us in line.
The Taxi home from Tonala was about $50 USD and we made it home before dark. All of our planning paid off with a smooth trip and no hiccups.
All for now, Tu amigo, Sid Grosvenor
