Moving To Lake Chapala : Part 1

This several part article may be getting the cart in front of the horse a bit, but assuming many of you will ultimately be actually taking action to live a Caviar Lifestyle on a Tuna Fish Pension I’m going to share some tips about how to relocate you and your stuff here to Lake Chapala.

A disclaimer: Please verify the information before relying on it. Laws change, businesses close and new ones open etc.

That being said, I think there are some real nuggets of wisdom in this article series which have been gained from my many years of experience in traveling back and forth from North America.

Some things have changed (mostly for the better) and some things have remained fairly constant.

For the sake of this Article series let’s assume you really have decided to take the plunge and move either full or at least part time to our little slice of paradise after your initial check us out visits.

Moving Your Stuff Down

First let me tell you about moving companies, which will move all your things, including a car if you want that shipped as well. Of course, to move your household goods without having to pay duty, you would first have to have a Resident Permit of some type formerly referred to as an FM3 or an FM2 visa.

You will need a detailed inventory of what you plan to move here. The moving companies will help you with this.

There are a number of moving firms that could move your things here. There are two local firms that I get good reports about from my clients.

The first is Strom-White Moving and Storage. They call themselves the professional movers. Low-cost moves and shared loads available. Seventy-five hundred square foot bonded warehouse plus self-storage now available. International moves to and from Mexico and anywhere else in the world. Warehouse/storage telephone number (local number) at Lake Chapala from the USA is 011 52 376-766-6153. USA direct telephone number is 210-745-2479.

Their email address is whitemovers@gmail.com. Their website is www.strommoving.com.

The other local moving firm is Lake Chapala Moving. They say “Moving you door-to-door worldwide. We are an international moving broker. We ship to and from anywhere in the free world. We also offer superior service for local and national moves within Mexico, whether you’re moving a few boxes, an entire household or a busy office. We have the moving solution for you. Use the company you can trust.” Their telephone local number, is 376-766-5008.

Calling international from the USA you would call 011 52 -376-766-5008. They’re located here in Chapala on the Carretera 158-A in San Antonio Tlayacapan, Jalisco, Mexico. Their website is www.lakechapalamoving.com.

So you have a choice of two excellent movers very familiar with our area.

All for now. Be on the lookout for part 2 coming next week.

Siempre tu amigo, Sid
