Palm Sunday at Lake Chapala

Semana Santa or Holy Week began this year on Palm Sunday, April 24, 2013 and Easter will fallon the following Sunday, April 31, 2013.

Palm Sunday celebrates arrival of Jesus in Jerusalem. The Biblical account has Jesus riding a donkey into town and the people laying down palm branches in his path.

Here at Lake Chapala the parade path in pre decorated with green plant cuttings. Then,various Catholic groups of adults and young people file in procession along the path reenacting Jesus' triumphal entry. The reenactment  ends in front of the main church.

Lake Chapala, like all of Mexico, has many religious holidays and traditions, which are not causes for commercialization for the most part, but more a time for families to gather, to pray, and worship.
