Is There a Taj Mahal at Lake Chapala?

October 5, 2013

Hi Everyone

One of our most beautiful homes that stands out as landmark and can be seen from miles away is perched on a hillside in Upper Chula Vista is for sale again.
People refer to it  as the Taj Mahal, I guess because it’s big, white, and impressive like the real Taj Mahal in India.
A number of years ago, when I worked for another local firm that had just listed it for sale I had occasion to tour the home and visit with the wife/ owner.
We sat in the large living area with a panoramic view of Lake Chapala visible from all the Southside windows. She told me that they first built what became the guest quarters (as large as many homes here).
Then she and her husband lived in this home while they supervised the building of the remainder of this outstanding property. If I recall correctly she said it took six years to complete.
She loved the home, it was clear, but they needed (wanted) to sell it. She told me that she often went to sleep sitting in one of the comfortable chairs in the living room as she watched the Moon rise through one of the large windows. (This room is 20 feet wide with a 30 foot high brick domed ceiling.)
If she woke during the night she could still see the moon as it continued its arc across the night sky in one of the windows which they had purposely designed to allow just that.
The home is 4 stories tall and has 7 bedrooms and 8 powder rooms, a heart shaped pool, and has over 10,700 sq. ft. of construction.
The asking price currently is $750,000 USD and it’s been on the market now for just over a year.
If that’s a bit steep for your budget I know of some very nice new homes in West Ajijic for under $120,000 USD. They even have domed brick ceilings as well in the living area, just not as impressive as the one in the below video.
Stay tuned because I plan to highlight these brand new homes from a local respected builder I trust soon here at www.ChapalaClub.com.
Now, back to the current home. Here’s a nice video of what the listing agent calls “La Casa del Sol” or the “Sun House”,
The video highlights it’s features so you can see what $750.000 USD will buy.

Here in Hawaii, $750,000 will get you a shack in Honolulu. If I had money, I would grab the Taj Mahal.

  • Bear

Wow, what a beauty! Of course we’re looking for something with a little more room…lol!

  • Sid Grosvenor

    Hi Mark,
I’ve never visited Hawaii, but some visitors who live there told me that our weather at Lake Chapala is even better than Hawaii, because we don’t
have the high humidity like Hawaii. We’re 5,000 ft.above sea level at Lake Chapala. They also said we don’t have as many bugs.

Hope you come sometime and check us out for yourself. Tu amigo, Sid

Believe it or not we have a few homes even larger in the area. Big is not always better. My home is more than enough at 2,000 sq. ft. Tu amigo, Sid
