Thanksgiving at Lake Chapala Ajijc with a Bang!

November 26, 2013

Hi Everyone, Well I hope you’ll be having a wonderful Thanksgiving in a few days.

At Lake Chapala the locals are into celebrations of all sorts and they often give the youth a reason to make some noise which often takes the form of Fireworks (Fuegos artificial).

North Americans living at Lake Chapala have much to be thankful for: Lots of great friends, great food and great low prices all in an environment of peace and tranquility (well most of the time).

On Festival days you can expect a bit less tranquility if you live near any of the area town plazas. To see and HEAR what I mean watch and listen to the short video at the end of the article.

We celebrate Thanksgiving at Lake Chapala much like in the USA and Canada. We eat turkey with all the trimmings here just like back home. The area restaurants have full traditional Thanksgiving menus and pavo (turkey) is eaten year around in Mexico so it’s a familiar low fat meat dish here.

The Americans and Canadians often celebrate their respective holidays together and Thanksgiving is no different.

If you prefer to cook your own bird or have a ham the butcher shops, WalMart and the Sorianna store have all the right stuff to make your dinner a special one.

Just like in the states, you can have your pavo precooked if you like it that way.

One of the cool things about living here, especially if you like celebrations is that you can participate in all of our North American celebrations (many of which are shared with Mexico) and those of Mexico as well.

OK, now here’s a short video from a few years back filmed on Thanksgiving morning in front of the Catholic Church at 6 a.m.

Thanksgiving with a “Bang !” here. Disfrute ! (Enjoy!)

 Tu amigo, Sid

Perhaps you should have mentioned that they are celebrating the festival of San Andres and not really Thanksgiving, they just happen to fall about the same time….
