Hi Everyone, A lot of North Americans that come for a visit to the Lake Chapala area fall in love with the villiage of Ajijic. Each year it seems to get more popular.

Of course along with the increased popularity and demand goes increased prices of homes.

Another Lake Chapala village growing in popularity is San Antonio, Tlayacapan usually just referred to locally as San Antonio. The original development was an indigenous village called “Tlayacapan” but when the Spanish took over the area they added a Saint’s name (Saint Anthony) and the new name was then San Antonio Tlayacapan.

Most people just refer to the town now as “San Antonio”. I think that San Antonio will continue to grow as more and more North American retirees
discover this still small, clean, Mexican village with the traditional Kiosko *Bandstand” in the middle of the town plaza across from the Catholic Church.

There’s a relatively new upscale restaurant near the plaza and a great Mom and Pop restaurant just off the plaza where Pop takes your order, cooks and serves it with a nice flare… and the prices are very reasonable as well.

There’s also a new seafood restaurant a couple of blocks from the town plaza, and each year I see more homes getting “face lifts” (new paint, new doors etc.) to dress up the exteriors.

The face lifts indicate to me that the homes were likely purchased by North Americans who wanted to add even more charm to their Mexican Village homes.

Here’s a video I shot a couple of years ago of the central area of San Antonio, Tla. I hope you enjoy it.

Siempre tu Amigo, Sid Grosvenor
