On the Fence If You Should Visit Lake Chapala- Ajijic?

November 25, 2014

Hi Friend,

Well, the elections are over for our USA Friends. I hope you voted .You know more and more North Americans each year vote with their feet so to speak and move here.

I just returned from a writer’s conference and visiting my Texas family. The trip was inspiring, fun, and I feel like I gained some new insights.

It’s very good to be back in paradise and reunite with family and friends.

I was home sick before I even left for the USA.

I think that means “I’ve found my place in the sun!” Can I help you do the same?

I’ve helped a lot of folks find there place in the sun on the shores of Lake Chapala. I hope to help you decide if it could be your place in the Sun as well.

Still on the fence? That’s fine. It’s a big decision. All in all, it’s just the right decision for more and more North Americans each year.

Are there less expensive places to live in Mexico or other places South of the US Border?

Yes, of course there are, but none with the good infrastructure, a nearby International Airport and where you can get by with minimal Spanish.

Of course the more Spanish you speak, the more you can save… and you can get to survival level quickly.

Did you know that Learning a new language is also good for our brain the scientists tell us. So in my opinion learning basic Spanish is a “Win, Win, Win proposition”.

You do not have to speak Spanish here…. you get to. Life is great here without knowing Spanish, but it’s even better the more Spanish you pickup.

Now, take a look at the below scenes all photographed here at safe, beautiful and affordable Lake Chapala, Mexico. I hope they help you decide to come for a visit, come for a vacation or better yet come for a lifetime. Tu amigo, Sid

    Hi Sid,
I am a 62 year old female who will have her final divorce in three weeks after a 36 year marriage. Yikes! I have an income of $2,000 per month and I am closely looking at the Lake Chapala area as well as Cuenca Ecuador. I have one small 10 lb dog that I wish to bring with me and I would be renting. I would also like to bring me car. How difficult is it to find a nice rental that will accept a small dog and is it unrealistic, in your experience, to bring my car? Thank you.

Hi Katheryn, Thanks for your comment,
You can live a very comfortable lifestyle here on your income. You would likely need a lot more Spanish in Equador. Landlord fear the damage that a pet could cause, Solution: Offer a large separate pet deposit.
You can drive your car here, but it’s a long drive from the USA. There’s many factors to consider about bringing in a car. Send me an e mail to elsidmx@yahoo.com with your car info and I’ll cover your options for having a car here, You may or may not be able to National it, Car prices here new and used are similar to prices in the USA,
Look forward to answering your questions in much more depth by private e-mail, All for now, Tu amigo, Sid

    Hi Sid,
Thanks for all of the time and effort you have put into this amazing sight! My husband and I visited for two months last year and are thinking about coming and spending several years. My biggest issue is I have a problem with my feet and the only activity I can do with consistency is lap swim. I have been searching and searching and asking all kinds of people in the area. We will have a car so can you tell me is there any place I can consistently swim laps in the Ajijic area?

  • Sid Grosvenor

Hi Chris, Thanks for your kind words. My wife likes to swim at the Monte Carlo Hotel, She goes on the days
they refill one of the pools from Natural thermal water.

Check in their office. I think there’s a small fee to use their pools.
Hope this helps, Let me know how to works out so I can advise others,
All for now, Tu amigo, Sid
