Hi Everyone,

Welcome to Chapala Club, the one man, many shows website dedicated to Living at Safe, Beautiful and Affordable Lake Chapala- Ajijic, Mexico.

In this mini article I want to tell you about one of the best bargains at Lake Chapala-Ajijic which is Dental Care.

Have you been putting off needed dental work? Depending upon your dental needs you may be able to save enough to pay for your trip here.

One reason, Mexico is noted for it’s high quality medical and dental care AND LOW PRICES. Another reason is local competition. I just counted the dentist ads in our local Telephone directory for 2014 and 2015. In 2014 there were 37 Dentists listed and in the 2015 Directory just released I counted 29.

I interpret this to mean that the stiff competition for your business has reduced the number of practicing area dentists.

No doubt there are dentists that practice here that did not get listed. They may not have a office telephone. They likely do not speak English. My count was taken from the privately published  English language Telephone Directory published by IMAGEN.

So you can see that there’s a healthy competition for your business.  This works to keep prices even lower. Some dentists listed offer teeth cleaning for 150 pesos (just over 10 US dollars at current exchange rates).  No doubt this is a way to get you to call and make an appointment. Full upper or lower dentures are advertised for  3300 pesos or about $240 USD. Almost unbelievable but true. I found 2 such ads in our 2015 Directory. Porcelain Crowns are advertised for 3,500 pesos  (about $250 USD).

I’ve used 3 local dentists and 1 Guadalajara dentists over the last 15 years.. I once got a triple root canal for $15o dollars (years ago).

All were excellent, gentle and more than fair priced. My current dentist is an Angel, Dr. Angelica Aldana Lema, DDS and specializes in Cosmetic and Oral Restoration. I’ve used her services several times. Her local number is 765 5364 and her office is in front of the Mirasol housing development.

So , why not consider a visit here. Check out the local retirement options. Get that “teeth cleaning” done you’ve been putting off and save a bundle at the same time.

Let me know how I can help!

All for now, Siempre tu amigo, Sid Grosvenor
