Hi Kirk,

As I understand Mexican law if the housekeeper was part time help no pension is due.

The estate would owe the house keeper some sum of money for terminating her services payable in a lump sum based on her years of service plus pay for any unused vacation time she had accrued.

You can probably find the formula on line or ask a Mexican Attorney or Mexican Notario.

The housekeeper must sign a release that she's been paid to keep her claim from being a cloud on the title. If the property is being sold the Notario who handles the closing should take care of the needed paper work.

At Lake Chapala the listing real estate agent often helps the seller prepare this paperwork.

This is the basic rules as I understand them for the State of Jalisco, but other States may vary. Best to check with a lawyer or Notario whee he property is located. Charges should be minimal or none at all just to tell you the rules

Hope this helps, Tu amigo, Sid

If you have had a house keeper for a number of years before you pass away, does your estate have to pay them a pension since mexico does not have social security? Thank you

HI Syd, Thanks for your comments.

Our area while not crime free has low overall crime, especially confrontational crime.

The police did recently catch a small gang of guys who were into car theft and kidnapping at the far West end of the Lake. All of them are now in custody.

We have excellent police response time on emergency calls (around 3 to 5 minutes).

Our ladies here feel safe to walk alone at nigh unescorted in our towns and villages.

I think you should come down and see for yourself, talk to people who live here, and decide for yourself.

Many North Americans drive here from the Texas border and as far as I know none have experienced problems.

I've driven back and forth many times over the last 16 years never with any problems other than once I blew an engine and spent over a week at a Mexican truck stop while the car was repaired.

All for now, Tu amigo, Sid

I have an uncle (Stan Sumnall) lives in or around chapala.

What worries me more than anything abour Mexico is all the drug problems and murders.
Also, travelling down the mexican highways doesn't sound too safe.
Am I being paranoid. Please advise

Hi Lawrence,

We'd love you to come visit us here at Lake Chapala, but the buses from most other parts of Mexico come here via Guadalajara.

So I think your bus would go to the LArge New bus station just outside Guadalajara in Tonala. From there you would need to take a taxi ride to the old bus station in the Central area of Guadalajara.

From there a bus to our bus station in downtown Chapala and from there a a taxi to your hotel or B and B.

You can stay at a Hotel or B and B in Chapala, but most of the B and B's are in Ajijic to the East of Chapala about 10 to 15 minutes by taxi.

Local buses can take you from our bus station to a hotel or B and B at Chapala but not easy to carry suitcases on and off local buses.

The same for taking a local bus to Ajijic. from opur local bus station. There's a taxi stand in front of our local bus station.

The fare from the Old Guadalajara Downtown Central bus station to our station here is 45 pesos per person ( a bargain given the distance) and it takes about an hour.

Let me know by e mail to Sid@ChapalaClub.com if you're coming and we'll try and help you once you arrive here.

Hi Dan,
Yes, I love what I do and like to spread the word.

It's a lot of what some people would call work, but honestly it's hard for me to determine where having fun and working start and end.

It's very self fulfilling to be able to help so many people.

Look forward to your visit and meeting you in person.

Tu amigo, Sid

Hi Juan, Yes, they are.

Here's quote from an article that gives their contact information.

" Please join Ajijic Limpio in any way you can to help clean up our world, village by village. We also want to remind everyone of the garden waste pickup program that is currently underway as part of the Ajijic Limpio compost project. Free curbside pickup service is now offered on North South streets as well as East West streets at Ajijic addresses located below the carretera. Make sure to put out your garden waste in baskets or bins (no garbage bags) on Thursday mornings after the municipal garbage truck passes by. We also provide special pickup service for a reasonable price when you have large loads of garden debris. For full details and scheduling call Víctor Martínez, Cel. (01) 33 13 82 12 51; evenings, Tel. 766 1722. For more information see www.ajijiclimpio.org or contact us at ajijiclimpio@hotmail.com"

Hope this helps. Thanks for helping keep our area beautiful. Sid

Hi HC,

Thanks for the kind words, I sincerely appreciate them.

The Focus program is very well orchestrated and you get lots of good information but I hear it is a bit on the pricey side.

A number of my clients have attended and all said it was a good program.

I definitely believe in doing your due diligence and checking various sources so we're in total agreement and if necessary given the potential investment I also agree
that it would be worth several thousand dollars to get solid, verifiable, and unbiased information if you could not get it for less. You don't always get what you pay for unfortunately.

Send me an e mail to Sid@ChapalaClub.com or give me a call at 1 877 514 1396 (toll free) and I can expand on my comments.

I hope someone reads your comments that has been through the Focus program and can add more to this thread.

As far as I know currently the Focus folks are not making referrals to Exclusive Buyers' Only Realtors like myself.

Thanks again for the kind words. Tu amigo, Sid
